Siri0us Removed from Cydia, An Alternative Could Be ESRA
I’m sure you’ve already heard about the latest tweak called Siri0us that can be installed on your iDevices in order to obtain the Siri dictation feature that comes preinstalled on Apple’s iPhone 4S,but unfortunately this tweak is no longer available for iPhone 4 / 3GS because it was removed from Cydia.
Why is that? Well it turns out that this cool tweak developed by Eric Day violates the policy of Nuance Company, which is basically the creator of Siri application. A few days ago Eric Day confirmed on his Twitter account that he is looking for other alternatives for his Siri0us tweak, because he can’t use Nuance’s voice recognition technology anymore.
I don’t know for sure if this tweak still works for those iPhone users who already have installed it on their devices, but this aspect will definitely be cleared in the following days giving the fact that its use became illegal.
I think it’s enough with the bad news for just a day, so let me tell you that I’ve already found a replacement for Siri. I’m talking about ESRA (stands for Experimental Search Response Application), an application developed by the one and only Guillermo Moran.
First of all you should know that in order to use the ESRA application your iDevice must run with at least iOS 5 and, of course, it has to be jailbroken (see here how).
Even if ESRA is on its first stage and there still is a lot of work to do, its modern interface and functionality makes it look and work pretty much the same as Nuance’s Siri. This application sends all your commands directly to Guillermo’s personal server and after that you will receive a response based on the command you’ve just send, whether the command it’s spoken or typed.
ESRA is now ready to be installed directly from Cydia through the one and only BigBoss repo. Unfortunately the server can support only 200.000 users in the same time so it could take a while until you will be able to download this application.
If you missed it now you can see Siri0us in action. Enjoy!
